HandsOff (“HandsOff,” “we,” “us”) is an iOS app built by JMG Labs that helps you reduce distractions by blocking selected apps and rewarding focused time. We designed HandsOff to be privacy-first: the app works without an account, and the most sensitive information — the apps you choose to block — never leaves your device. This policy explains what we do and do not collect.
HandsOff uses Apple’s Family Controls, Managed Settings, and Device Activity frameworks to let you block distracting apps. When you pick the apps or categories to block, iOS represents them with private, opaque tokens. Because of how Apple designed these frameworks, HandsOff cannot see the names of the apps or websites you select, and this information stays on your device. We never receive, store, or transmit it.
With your permission, HandsOffuses your device’s motion sensors to detect when you place your phone face down so it can start a focus session. This data is processed locally in real time and is never stored or sent off the device.
Your settings, focus history, earned coins, and blocking rules are stored locally on your device (and synced across your own devices via Apple iCloud if you have it enabled). This information is under your control and is not accessible to us.
If you subscribe or make an in-app purchase, the transaction is processed by Apple through the App Store; we never receive your payment details. We use RevenueCat to manage subscriptions and entitlements. RevenueCat processes a randomly generated app user ID, your purchase and transaction history, and limited technical data (such as device type, operating system, and country) to deliver and validate your purchases. See RevenueCat’s Privacy Policy and Apple’s Privacy Policy.
To understand how features are used and improve the app, HandsOff may collect anonymous, privacy-preserving usage events (for example, that a focus session started or a settings screen was viewed). These events are deliberately stripped of sensitive content: we never include app names, website names, URLs, search queries, or any free-form text you enter. Each event is associated with a random anonymous identifier (not linked to your identity) along with the app version and platform. When enabled, these events are processed by PostHog on our behalf.
With your permission, HandsOff sends local notifications (for example, focus reminders). You can disable notifications at any time in iOS Settings.
HandsOff is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If a parent or guardian believes a child has provided us with information, please contact us so we can address it.
Because HandsOff stores your data on your device, you can delete it at any time by deleting the app. You may also revoke Screen Time, Motion, and Notification permissions in iOS Settings. To request deletion of any data held by our processors, or to ask a privacy-related question, contact us at jmglabs.uy@gmail.com.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above. Significant changes will be reflected on this page.
